740 companies will pay income taxes through digital taxation system

At the end of the year in Costa Rica, large companies and large local contributors may submit their income tax statements from 2008 through the digital taxation system.

The vice minister of Finance, Jenny Phillips, said that she expects to be able to launch this project on November 20, although it is only an estimated date.

Digital taxation is a system that will allow taxpayers to process their taxes over the Internet.

National University strengthens security

The National University of Costa Rica (UNA by its initials in Spanish), launched a campaign to strengthen security at its campuses in different facilities.

They did this to prevent criminal gangs from operating in the vicinity. Computer equipment thefts and car break-ins are among the most commonly reported crimes.

Juan Santamaria Airport's new manager will expand the airport in Liberia

The authorities in Costa Rica decided that the new manager or administrator of the Juan Santamaria Airport will also be in charge of the Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia, Guanacaste.

Heredia train has financing

The dream of the past few years of having a train from San Jose to Heredia in Costa Rica will soon be fulfilled.

Hotels in Costa Rica are experiencing decreased occupancy

The financial crisis that the United States is going through is causing more than half of the hotels in Costa Rica to have more empty rooms than usual.

The decrease in occupancy with respect to the same time last year is between 5% and 50%, as indicated by the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH by its initials in Spanish).
