“Oscarthlon” 2008 announces all its stars

Posted 12-03-2008 at 03:22 PM by marcob
In two days, the Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace,) in Heredia, Costa Rica, will be flooded with stars. They don’t come from any particular constellation and have names and surnames: 30 artists, 11 foreign artists, 39 animators and nine children whose life stories will give an overview of the problems facing burned children.

On Friday and Saturday December 5 & 6, in Heredia, the Telethon 2008 will make an great effort to collect ¢450 million for investment in equipment and other needs of the Burn Unit at the Children's Hospital, which will then be transferred to the Smiles Hospital, when it was built.

What doesn’t the unit need? The money that the telethon wants to collect could give hundreds of burned children dermatomes, which will be used to take skin grafts with millimetric precision, a scanner will also aid in the treatment of facial scars.

Treatment tables for burn victims with a water treatment system, mattresses for beds, ultrasonic debridement, mesh, equipment to place skin grafts, a vasical volume monitor and electrical beds complete the lot of equipment that this Costa Rican Telethon has proposed as the goal to achieve, as long as every Costa Rican shakes his pockets and donates the money needed.

Since it is necessary to convince people to donate their colones, a lot of national and international artists will sing, play and act without receiving a fee, so that people might donate a little bit.

To achieve a little more awareness about the pain of burned children and their will to succeed is the reason why this telethon decided to make them protagonists and created “The Stars of the Telethon;” nine children who are the real heroes of this day by being able to go forward after very adverse situations. They will be treated as luminaries, arriving to the activities in limousines, walking down the red carpet and having an animator as godfather or godmother.

The 2008 Telethon will begin this Friday, December 5 at 9 p. m. and end on Saturday, December 6 at midnight after 27 hours of entertainment are performed.

Yesterday, at a press conference the 2008 Telethon in Costa Rica revealed its full roster of artists.

Among those already confirmed from abroad are the Spaniard-Argentine Chenoa, the Venezuelan Jose Luis Rodriguez, the Puma, as well as the Panamanian Margarita Henriquez, winner of the Latin American Idol contest and the Costa Rican Jose Maria Castillo, who also participated in this international program.

The Mexicans David Cabazos, Nikki Clan and the Christian musical group Aliento de Vida, Breath of Life are coming.

The Colombian Alicastro, the Panamanian Nigga, the Guatemalan Shery and the children’s program Sesame Street will also make an appearance.

Felipe Viel, emcee of the TV program Escandalo, will be an animator and the Costa Rican Veronica Bastos will “repatriate” herself to be in the telethon.

When consulted, producers Ruben Salas, Luis González and the president of the Club Activo (Active Club) 20-30 Club, Jeffrey Chaves, indicated that they could still have an ace up their sleeve, and that they are still waiting for other international artists to join the event. And they said that they would know today if the Spaniard David Bustamante, who arrived in the country yesterday for a promotional tour, could at least be in the opening ceremony.

“We wanted him for the closing event, but he had already committed to an activity in Venezuela,", said Ruben Salas. It just so happens that the Spaniard, in theory, would leave Friday.

Meanwhile, there will be 30 Costa Rican artists who will stand up and be counted, Tapón, Madera Nueva, Pato Barraza, Los Pirulos, Mechas Zumbado, Escats, No Angel, Toledo, Sin Paredes, Kalúa, Son Mayor y Unlimit, among them.

As of today, the Telethon production will know with certainty how the final script will be. However, they conceded that Chenoa will sing in the opening ceremony Friday and that Jose Luis Rodriguez, the Puma will be in the closing ceremony Saturday.

Therefore, all of you who can do so please donate to this noble cause. TicosLand.com invites you to contribute to a noble cause which is never ending and necessary to achieve the welfare of our children.
