Users of GSM telephone services through ICE in Costa Rica must take special care when it comes to calling the 112 service, which is intended give you the official time in our country. This is because most of the GSM cellular phones that dial 112 will get an answer from 911 such as “What's your emergency?"
This situation occurs because of an error in the ICE central in conjunction with the international configuration of the GSM phones which detects the 112 number as an emergency number and transfers it immediately to 911 service operators.
Representatives of the 911 service confided to TicosLand.com that this situation generates about a thousand calls wrong numbers to the emergency operators every day, which is why we think it is very important to make the situation know and offer a solution.
So how can I call to find out the hour without getting an answer from 911?
It is actually quite simple. What you must do is enter an asterisk (*) before the 112, so that you dial:
* 112
With the above step you will have no problem and obtain the desired information.
What happens if my cell phone is cut off and I have an emergency?
Because of international agreements, even with the phone "cut off", you can access the emergency service by calling 112 or 911 as your mobile phone allows.
